"Get off my lawn!"
Clint Eastwood directs and stars in this almost
comedy, almost tragedy about one of the crankiest old farts you’ll ever
meet. And his pride and joy – other than throwing digs, slurs and
racially-charged epithets at just about everyone (because he seems to hate
everyone, but not because of race) – is an old and perfectly preserved 1972
Gran Torino that the Asian, teenage boy next store tries to steal as an
initiation into the local Asian gang. There are lots of issues and lessons
in the film, but one lesson is obvious: never mess with Eastwood, no matter
what role he plays. You know that a showdown is unavoidable, but the ending
has an unforgettable twist. Buy a six-pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon (Walt
Kowalski
drinks a lot of it in this one) and get
ready for a really well-done Eastwood vehicle!
